Course Overview

The Pre-degree Foundation Programme bridges the gap between school and post-school education. It provides a sound foundation in a range of skills needed for higher education studies at Pearson Institute.

You will develop theoretical understanding of, and practical skills in English language and comprehension, numeracy and the use of computers and technology. You will also learn how to study, conduct research and be a successful student. Over and above this, you will be introduced to the social sciences as an important multi-disciplinary field of study. The core subjects are Student Skills, Academic English, Introductory Mathematics, Development Studies and an Introduction to Computer Skills. You will also choose two faculty-specific elective modules from a range of introductory topics including Commerce (Economics), IT, Science, Graphic Design and Psychology. The programme is designed to offer access to each of PI’s faculties, aligned to the admission requirements of each degree.

You will complete a set curriculum in your first semester which will consist of the following core modules:

- Academic English A
- Student Skills A
- Introduction to Mathematics A
- Development Studies A
- Introduction to Computer Skills

In your second semester you will continue with the following modules:

- Academic English B
- Mathematics for Degree Studies B

Or

- Development Studies B
- Student Skills B

And

A choice of two elective Faculty-specific modules:
- Introduction to Biology
- Introduction to Commerce
- Introduction to Critical Reasoning
- Introduction to IT
- Introduction to Psychology
- Introduction to Science
- Introduction to Writing and Communication Skills

For Graphic Design Streams, you will complete a set curriculum in your first semester which will consist of the following core modules:
- Academic English A
- Student Skills A
- Development Studies A
- Design Fundamentals
- Introduction to Graphic Design

In your second semester you will continue with the following modules:
- Academic English B
- Development Studies B
- Student Skills B
- Introduction to Computer Skills
- Introduction to Graphic Design Illustration
